About the programme
Applied Linguistics (Language Use, Processing and Acquisition) is a bilingual Master of Arts, in German and English, at the University of Erfurt. It studies human language from two angles: communication and society, and communication and cognition. You analyse language in social and cultural contexts, investigate the mental processes behind it, and apply results to practical language and communication problems, using corpus, discourse, sociolinguistic and psycho- and neurolinguistic methods. You specialise in at least one of three areas: language use, language processing or language acquisition. The programme has 120 credit points over four semesters: three semesters of study, including two language modules, and one for the thesis. It can be studied full or part time and starts in winter or summer. Graduates can work in language diagnostics and support, multilingual education, communication coaching, editing and publishing.
