About the programme

Anglophone Studies is a two-subject Master of Arts at the University of Duisburg-Essen that starts in the winter semester and lasts four semesters, or six semesters part-time. Teaching is generally in English. When enrolling you choose one of three focus areas: American Studies, British and Postcolonial Studies, or English Linguistics. All three variants study linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena in their social, cultural and political contexts, linking linguistics and literary studies with cultural studies. American Studies centres on interculturality and cultural and ethnic identity, with an option to specialise in inter-American studies. British and Postcolonial Studies looks at the anglophone world as a whole, with an option to focus on postcolonial studies. English Linguistics covers variation linguistics and the study of language use. All variants share three language practice courses and a research colloquium for the master's thesis.
