About the programme

Educational Science with a Focus on Parenting (Bildungswissenschaft) at Justus Liebig University Giessen is a consecutive, three-semester Master's with 90 credit points. It is aimed mainly at graduates of the L1 and L2 teacher training programmes for primary and secondary schools, whose 6 or 7 semester degrees are not recognised as academic university degrees, and it is also open to international students. The programme gives them a route to a Master's-level qualification, new professional fields and, where wanted, a doctorate. It builds the competences those programmes covered only briefly: in-depth subject knowledge in educational science and sound research methodology. A research-oriented internship in the second semester has you work on a research question in educational science or observe and analyse educational practice.

Admission requirements

Admission to the Master's degree programme requires a degree in Primary School Teaching or Secondary School Teaching or a comparable degree with a total of 210 CP. The Examination Board may recognise other degree programmes as equivalent following a case-by-case assessment and, if necessary, an additional entrance examination.

Programme-specific documents

Your school-leaving certificate (this may in certain cases take the form of a listing of the subject grades achieved in your last year of school; if applicable, also an academic transcript and/or diploma from a university already attended) and a translation of these documents (into English or German).
