About the programme
Turcology is an English-taught Master of Arts (M.A.) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. It takes 4 semesters (120 ECTS), you can start in summer or winter, and admission is open. You deepen your understanding of Turkic linguistics and literature, building theoretical, methodological and practical skills in phonology, syntax, dialectology and language contact, and apply them in seminars closely tied to research projects. Typical questions include how to explain structural differences between Turkic languages, how authors influenced each other and the world's literature, what texts reveal about where and when they were written, and how Turkic peoples interacted with their neighbours. It suits you if you enjoy working with texts in different Turkic varieties and writing systems. Requirements include a Bachelor's of at least six semesters with at least 36 credits in Turcology or a thesis on a Turcological topic, and Turkish or another Turkic language at B2 or above.
