About the programme

The M.Sc. Biotechnology at the University of Hohenheim is a research-oriented programme taught in English, with 4 semesters and 120 credits, based in Stuttgart. It centres on enzymes and microorganisms and how they are used in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. In the first semester you build advanced knowledge of microorganisms, proteins, biocatalysis, genetic engineering and analytical methods. In the second and third semesters you shape your own focus, for example enzymatic production processes or food microbiology, and the third semester can be used for a stay abroad or an internship. The fourth semester is a research-intensive Master's thesis. Teaching runs in four-week block modules, with modern laboratories and pilot plants. It suits graduates with a Bachelor's in natural or engineering sciences who enjoy lab work.
