About the programme
Applied Natural Science (Angewandte Naturwissenschaft) at TU Bergakademie Freiberg is a four-semester, research-oriented Master of Science, with starts in the winter or the summer semester and part-time study possible. Most courses are in German, with some in English. The programme brings together physics, chemistry and biotechnology, combining a broad science education with applied research and cross-disciplinary problem-solving, and it develops theoretical and experimental skills equally. You specialise in one of four areas: environmental biotechnology and analytics; solid-state physics; semiconductor technology and photovoltaics; or the theory of the electronic structure of materials, which includes molecular modelling, quantum chemistry and machine learning. It suits graduates in applied natural science or a related field who are aiming for research and development in the semiconductor industry, small companies and start-ups, research institutes such as Max Planck, Fraunhofer, Helmholtz or Leibniz, clinics, or interdisciplinary roles in large industry.
