About the programme
Archäologische Wissenschaften (Archaeological Sciences) is a Master of Arts at the University of Freiburg, taught in German over 4 semesters with 120 credits, with entry in the winter or summer semester. It deepens the study of material evidence from European prehistory to the early modern period: you develop research questions, interpret finds and critically assess archaeological interpretations. You specialise in an archaeological sub-discipline such as prehistoric and early historical, classical, provincial Roman or Byzantine archaeology, complemented by art history, anthropology and history. Practical training includes excavations, museum work, workshops and site excursions. Graduates can work in museums, heritage management, research, exhibitions and public engagement, or go on to a doctorate. You need German at B2, English at B2 and another modern language at A2.
