About the programme
Vorderasiatische Altertumskunde (Ancient Near Eastern Studies) is a German-taught Master of Arts at the University of Freiburg over 4 semesters with 120 credits, with entry in the winter or summer semester. It gives advanced training in the cultures of ancient Southwest Asia from prehistory to pre-Islamic times, working with archaeological and philological evidence. The research-oriented, interdisciplinary programme emphasises independent analysis of material culture, written sources, settlement and landscape archaeology, and human-environment relations, and students are closely involved in international research projects. Graduates gain the skills for independent academic work and can go into research, heritage management and museums, or on to a doctorate. You need German at B2 and English at B1.
