About the programme

Gender Studies is a two-year, German-taught Master of Arts at the University of Freiburg, starting in the winter semester only. It takes an inter- and transdisciplinary approach to how gender and gender relations matter across all areas of society and culture, looking at inequality and difference between and within genders. The Freiburg programme rests on two pillars, the humanities, social and cultural sciences on one side and technology, natural sciences and medicine on the other, with disciplines ranging from American studies, ethnology, sociology, history and political science to forestry, biology, computer science, cognitive science and mathematics. It links theory, empirical work and practical application, building analytical, methodological, social and communication skills for careers in academia, business, administration, media and culture.
