About the programme
Klassische Philologie (Classical Philology) is a research-oriented Master of Arts at the University of Freiburg, taught in German over 4 semesters with 120 credits and starting in the winter semester, with a binational option. It explores the languages, literature and culture of the Greco-Roman world and their influence up to today. Alongside in-depth study of Greek and Latin languages and literatures, it emphasises textual tradition, reception history, post-classical Latin culture, literary theory and digital humanities, and a research practice module introduces you to scholarship in Classics. Graduates can pursue an academic career or work in science management, publishing, libraries, cultural institutes and museums. You need German at C1, Latin and Greek, and French at B2 for the binational profile or another relevant modern language at B2.
