About the programme

Integrated Life Sciences at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is an international, two-year Master of Science taught in English, set up jointly by the departments of biology, physics and mathematics. It combines theory and hands-on courses in modern techniques where biology meets neighbouring life sciences, reflecting fast-moving research in molecular biology, biophysics, systems biology and synthetic biology. These fields combine methods such as X-ray diffraction, computer simulation and high-resolution microscopy. In the first year you choose two of three major fields: mathematical modelling and systems biology, bioimaging and biophysics, or biological structures and processes. In the second year you carry out an independent research project in a participating research group at the university or the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Light. It suits graduates who want to train in current computational and experimental methods close to research.
