About the programme

Politics and Democracy (M.Sc.) at Leuphana University Lüneburg studies democracy from a political science perspective, at a time when populist parties, misinformation and declining trust put it under pressure. It lasts four semesters, carries 120 credits, is taught in English and starts on 1 October, with 25 study places. The programme compares democracies internationally and covers behavioural, cultural, institutional, international and normative-theoretical aspects. Through close collaboration with the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg, it focuses on democracy in both the Global North and the Global South. It also gives rigorous training in qualitative, quantitative and experimental social science research methods, along with data and decision-making analysis. The programme is aimed at graduates of political science and related disciplines.
