About the programme
Buddhist Studies and Contemplative Traditions is an English-taught Master of Arts at Leipzig University. You gain in-depth knowledge of Buddhism and of past and present contemplative traditions, with thorough training in one Buddhist source language: Sanskrit, Tibetan, Chinese or Mongolian. You can start without prior knowledge of these languages. In the first year you take two introductory or in-depth modules in your source language; in the second year you complete a research laboratory course, a colloquium and your master's thesis. The programme is interdisciplinary, with modules shared with Chinese Studies and Religious Studies. It lasts four semesters (120 credits) and starts in the winter or summer semester. It suits graduates of religious, regional or cultural studies, ethnology or a Buddhism-related subject.
