About the programme
Archaeology of the Ancient World (AAW) is a two-year, full-time Master of Arts at Freie Universität Berlin, taught in English, with a start in the winter semester. It brings together three disciplines, Prehistoric Archaeology, Near Eastern Archaeology and Classical Archaeology, to study the past of the Mediterranean region, Eurasia and southwest Asia, an area that saw intense transformation and contact between cultures over the last ten thousand years. As a consecutive programme, it builds on what you learned about ancient material culture in your Bachelor's or through professional work. You gain theoretical skills in handling scholarly arguments and practical skills in handling artefacts and analysing data. It suits graduates with a background in archaeology.
