About the programme

Linguistics at Bielefeld University is an English-language Master of Arts over four semesters, worth 120 credit points, with starts in the winter or the summer semester. Drawing on the university's linguistic research areas, it gives you a broad range of advanced knowledge and methods to describe linguistic, communicative and cognitive structures and processes and to place them within current linguistic theory. You learn to apply qualitative, quantitative and grammar-theory methods to complex language phenomena on your own, and you learn the basics of computational linguistic and neurolinguistic analysis. You can set your own focus in general linguistics, computational linguistics, communication, laboratory phonology and experimental phonetics, neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics, or clinical linguistics. The degree prepares you for an academic career in research and teaching, and for jobs in media and journalism, technical documentation, language technology, public relations, corporate communication, human-machine interaction, language documentation or language teaching.
