About the programme
Interdisciplinary Studies of Science at Bielefeld University is an English-language Master of Arts over four semesters, worth 120 credit points, with starts in the winter or the summer semester. It brings together historical, philosophical, sociological and economic perspectives on the study of science. You look at how science works, the conditions it depends on and its effects in society, past and present. The sociology of science examines how science interacts with its social environment, the philosophy of science analyses how science works and why it succeeds, including its ethical and social sides, and the history of science traces its development and its meaning for the economy and society. Besides research skills, you learn to spot innovation potential, problems and solutions where science and society meet. It suits graduates from the humanities or social sciences who want to reflect on how science works.
