About the programme

History at Bielefeld University is a four-semester Master of Arts worth 120 credit points, with double-degree options and starts in the winter or the summer semester. It prepares you for a career as a historian through wide and deep study of many historical topics and current research questions. The programme stresses theory and method, along with transnational and comparative perspectives, and an interdisciplinary theory module puts history in dialogue with other subjects. Besides modules on the pre-modern period (antiquity, the Middle Ages and the early modern period) and the modern period (19th to 21st centuries), you complete a specialisation module and a research module, and your specialisation can appear on your degree certificate. The 'History as a Career' unit helps with advice, contacts and internships. It suits graduates aiming for research, communication, cultural or science management, media and publishing, museums and archives, tourism or foundations.
