About the programme

Geoecology (Environmental Sciences) at the University of Bayreuth is a four-semester Master of Science taught in German and English. You can start in the winter semester, or in the summer semester after advice from the programme coordinator. Geoecology is an interdisciplinary environmental science that studies how biological, chemical and physical processes work in the environment, from soil through plants to the atmosphere, in natural and human-made ecosystems such as lakes, forests, fields, industrial wasteland and landfills. You specialise in one of four directions: environmental physical transport processes, biogeochemical processes, ecosystem and landscape dynamics, or human-environment interaction. Research themes include the consequences and prevention of global change, ecosystem functions and services, biodiversity, and environmental and nature conservation. Teaching takes place in the lab and in the field with close supervision. It suits graduates who want to research environmental processes or work on solutions to environmental problems.
