About the programme
Economics at the University of Bayreuth is a four-semester Master of Science taught in English and German, with most courses and materials in English, and you can start in the winter or the summer semester. It mixes basic and specialisation courses, with a strong focus on independent scientific work. The core skills are in institutional economics, international economic relations and empirical economic research, and you learn to structure and solve complex problems at a high methodological level. You learn to evaluate economic research and to critically examine and develop models of economic and political-economic interaction. You can give the programme an interdisciplinary focus by linking it with business administration, law, or the Philosophy & Economics and History & Economics programmes, and strong students can take doctoral courses. It suits graduates aiming for banks, insurers, research institutes, the public service, think tanks, NGOs or international organisations, or a doctorate.
