About the programme

Design (Gestaltung) at West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau is a full-time Master of Arts taught in German, lasting two semesters (60 ECTS) and starting in the winter semester. It is offered in three fields: wood design with product and object design, fashion design, and textile art and textile design. The project-based teaching closely links realistic design processes with real product making and takes your individual interests, experience and focus into account. In varied design projects you learn to work creatively and on your own, and to handle design tasks in complex contexts. Work with partners from industry, art, science and research is part of the programme, alongside artistic and theoretical foundations, and seminars on markets and design theory look at design's social, economic, ecological and cultural responsibility. It suits designers aiming for responsible roles in industry, crafts, art, culture or freelance work.

Prerequisites

  • A degree in the field of fashion design, wood design/industrial design, textile arts/textile design or a Bachelor or Masters degree or a German Diplom in a relevant field with at least 240 credit points (ECTS).
  • Applicants who have achieved a degree with at least 210 ECTS points are able to take a preliminary semester to obtain the necessary 30 ECTS points, to bring them up to 240.
  • Applicants with an international qualification have to show proof of language skills in both written and spoken German at a B2 Level according to Common European Framework of Reference of Languages. In cases of uncertainty the examination office of the design department will decide on the basis of the documents submitted or a language assessment.
