About the programme

Agriculture, Ecology and Societies (AGES) is a Master's at the University of Kassel that treats agriculture as a complex socio-ecological system. It combines a sound agronomic qualification with an understanding of how farming is embedded in the economy and society, linking natural sciences, land and farm management, agricultural ethics, governance and rural economics, food system politics and critical food systems research. You shape the programme around your interests through a wide choice of modules and projects, with interdisciplinary, critical and project-based learning. It is run by the Department of Ecological Agricultural Sciences together with four other departments, and partner universities abroad let you specialise further, for example in agroecology or rural development; stays abroad can also be part of thesis field research. All modules are taught in English. It lasts four semesters, starts in winter, and leads to an M.Sc. or M.A. depending on your specialisation.
