About the programme

Indology and Tibetology is a research-oriented Master of Arts at Universität Hamburg that also builds practical, career-related knowledge. You deepen your knowledge of Indology and Tibetology, learn to work independently with primary sources in one of the languages of your focus, and practise academic debate across cultural contexts. Shared modules, Research Approaches and Project Assignment, give you the methods for later work in practice, advising or research, and you specialise through a profile, with options such as Indology with a focus on Sanskrit, Tamil studies or Yoga studies. Your thesis comes in the fourth semester. The programme lasts four semesters, is taught in English, and you can start in winter or summer. Graduates can work in research and teaching, national and international organisations, companies, publishing, journalism or tourism.
