About the programme
Greek and Latin Philology is a Master of Arts at Universität Hamburg that brings together classical philology (Greek and Latin), Byzantine studies and Modern Greek philology. You gain in-depth knowledge of one of the languages and literatures, Ancient, Medieval or Modern Greek or Latin, and of the cultures around them, and you specialise in one profile: Greek studies, Latin studies, or Byzantine and Modern Greek philology. Required modules cover language history and literary language, literature and its theory, and late antiquity to the early modern period, plus a language module to extend your skills. The final semester brings a colloquium, the thesis and an oral exam. The programme lasts four semesters, is taught in German, and you can start in winter or summer. It prepares you for a doctorate and for work in adult education, libraries, publishing, museums and archives.
