About the programme
Molecular Life Sciences is an interdisciplinary Master of Science at Universität Hamburg about understanding life down to its molecular processes. It covers basic research in biochemistry and molecular biology as well as its uses in medical ("red") biochemistry and plant ("green") biochemistry. In the first two semesters you take required courses in RNA biochemistry, biotic interaction, molecular medicine and molecular cell biology; in the last two you specialise through electives such as bioinformatics, microbial infection mechanisms, or regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. You also learn to plan research projects and communicate results. The programme lasts four semesters, is taught in German and English, and starts in winter. Graduates can work in research and development, at universities, in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, or as experts in environmental agencies, and can go on to a doctorate.

The following special admission requirements exist for the Master's degree programme in Molecular Life Sciences:
- (1) A degree in the Bachelor's degree program in Molecular Life Sciences at Universität Hamburg or a comparable degree program or a degree in another Bachelor's degree program, provided that academic achievements in the amount of at least 90 credit points comparable to the curriculum of the Bachelor's degree program in Molecular Life Sciences can be proven.
- (2) In special cases, admission is possible under deviation from the condition mentioned under (1) (possibly with individual conditions) if a Bachelor's degree is available, with at least 70 credit points that are comparable to the curriculum of the Bachelor's degree program in Molecular Life Sciences and additional proof of special course-related achievements (e.g. relevant internships, professional experience or work results). The selection committee of the Master's degree program in Molecular Life Sciences decides on this.
- If no degree certificate is available at the time of application, this can be submitted by the end of the first Master's semester. For the documents to be submitted in this case, see "Application documents to be submitted" below
