About the programme
The Geosciences Master of Science at Universität Hamburg offers interdisciplinary training on the solid Earth, closely linked with marine geosciences, and lets you specialise in geology, soil science or mineralogy. Geology covers geodynamics, basin analysis, applied micropalaeontology, geohazards and biogeochemistry; soil science covers material cycles on land, climate-relevant soil processes and soil protection; mineralogy covers petrology, crystallography and materials research. In the first year you deepen your geoscience knowledge with practical work and courses from other fields; in the second year you learn research methods, specialise and write your thesis. The programme lasts two years (four semesters), is taught in German and starts in winter. Graduates can work in research and teaching, industry, government agencies, consulting and engineering firms, water management, and environmental and soil protection.
