About the programme
Geography: Global Transformations and Environmental Change is a research-oriented Master of Science at Universität Hamburg's Institute of Geography. It teaches approaches to understanding and dealing with global change in economy and society, global environmental change, and the resulting human-environment relationships. You choose one of three focuses: physical geography, on how climate and land-use change drive the Earth system; economic and social geography, on globalisation; or an integrative track that combines natural and social science. Methods training matters a lot here, from quantitative or qualitative methods to GIS, remote sensing and modelling. The programme lasts four semesters, is taught in German with some classes in English, and starts in winter. It prepares you mainly for research, and also for planning offices, environmental protection, water management, tourism, transport planning, geodata management and media.
Specialization
Students can choose between three areas of concentration: Physical-geographical: Economic and social geography: Integrative:
