About the programme
The M.Sc. Computational Sciences at the University of Cologne is an interdisciplinary, English-taught programme over 4 semesters with 120 credits, starting in the winter semester. It prepares you to answer new kinds of questions in the natural sciences with advanced computational methods, so you study one natural-science specialisation alongside simulation and modelling, data science such as machine learning, applied mathematics and computer science. The first two semesters combine the purpose-built Simulation and Modeling 1 and 2 modules, electives in mathematics and computer science, and courses in your specialisation, such as Earth System Sciences. The last two semesters focus on research: a literature seminar, project work and the Master's thesis in a research group of your specialisation. It suits graduates of a mathematical or scientific Bachelor's who know a higher programming language.
Specialization
The five areas of specialization are: Computational Astro- and Space Physics Computational Biology Earth System Sciences Theoretical Chemistry Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
