About the programme
Dependency and Slavery Studies is an English-taught, research-oriented Master of Arts at the University of Bonn, run by the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies. It takes a broad, interdisciplinary view of slavery and other forms of strong asymmetrical dependency across time and space. You build knowledge of the historical phenomena and the methods and theories to pursue your own research, take classes on transcultural comparison and current research debates, and work on case studies using textual sources, material culture and data. Elective modules can include an internship at national or international institutions, and the fourth semester is for your thesis. The programme lasts two years (120 ECTS) and starts in October. It suits graduates in fields such as history, archaeology, area studies, religious studies or social sciences, and German is not required.
