About the programme

Natural Products & Drug Chemistry at the University of Bayreuth is a two-year, research-oriented Master of Science worth 120 ECTS, taught in English, full time, with starts in the winter or the summer semester. Rooted in organic chemistry, it focuses on advanced organic synthesis, catalysis and how the structure of molecules relates to their function. You learn to design, make, analyse and improve complex small molecules, with sustainable and efficient routes to natural products and drug-like molecules at the core. Key topics include stereoselective synthesis of complex natural products, modern synthesis methods, analytical methods for reaction screening and structure elucidation, and interactions between organic compounds and their targets. You also complete a research proposal module, two extended research modules in research groups and a Master's thesis, and you join ongoing research through lab rotations. It suits chemistry graduates aiming for research careers in academia or the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
