About the programme

Intercultural Anglophone Studies (MAIAS) at the University of Bayreuth is a Master of Arts worth 120 ECTS, taught in English. It takes four semesters full time or eight part time, with intakes in the winter and the summer semester. The programme builds advanced research skills in one of two areas: Anglophone literatures and cultures, including American, British, and postcolonial and diaspora studies, or English linguistics. You learn to analyse complex questions of language, literature and culture across literature, film, theatre, music and other popular culture. You choose classes from many thematic areas with a focus on inter- and transcultural issues and cultural diversity, such as ecocriticism, diaspora studies, science fiction, World Englishes, contact linguistics and electronically mediated communication. An optional 30-ECTS eco-track focuses on literature, culture and the environment. It suits graduates interested in the language, literatures and cultures of the English-speaking world.
