About the programme
GeoThermie/GeoEnergie is a joint Master of Science from TUM and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, offered as part of the Geothermal Alliance Bavaria, with Erlangen and Munich as its locations. It runs full-time for four semesters with 120 ECTS and starts in the winter semester (October). Teaching is usually in German, with some courses in English. Geothermal energy can be used continuously, unlike fluctuating wind and solar power, and Bavaria leads Germany in this field thanks to its large reserves of hot deep water. The programme trains experts for the renewable energy market, from exploring and developing the resource to using and storing heat energy. You learn exploration methods such as seismic interpretation, tectonics and reservoir geology and modelling, plus the geomechanics and rock physics needed for sustainable use. Studying close to existing plants gives you strong links to practice. You apply online via FAU's Campo platform.
