About the programme
Forest and Wood Science at TUM is a four-semester Master of Science with 120 ECTS on the Weihenstephan (Freising) campus, available full-time or part-time and starting in the winter semester (October). German is the required language. It focuses on the sustainable management of forest resources and covers the whole value chain, from production in the forest to finished wood products. Forests are major biodiversity hotspots, produce wood as a key renewable resource and serve society in many ways, so balancing these interests needs careful, long-term planning. The programme rests on four pillars: Environment, Production, Society and Wood. The first semester covers fundamentals and methods plus an internship and cross-disciplinary skills. In the second and third semesters you choose three of six specialist areas, such as wood as a raw and building material, mountain forestry, forest management or international forestry, and the fourth is for the Master's thesis.
Specialization
In the second and third semesters, students choose three of the six available specialist areas: “Wood as raw/building material”, “Mountain forestry”, “Forest management”, “International forestry”, “Site assessment and use” as well as “Landscape development and nature conservation”.
