About the programme
Molecular Biosciences and Productive Biosystems at TU Dresden is a four-semester Master of Science taught in English, starting in the summer semester. It builds in-depth molecular biology knowledge of microbes, fungi and plants, and of how these systems are used to make active ingredients and chemicals in 'white' biotechnology, supporting the development of the bioeconomy. In the first semester you learn theory and lab skills in growing microbes, gene expression and protein extraction in microbial host systems, and you study fungi and protists. In the second and third semesters you deepen core topics in functional tools, productive biosystems and application technologies, choose your own focus, and rotate through two research groups to practise independent scientific work, from literature research and hypotheses to planning and evaluating experiments. The fourth semester is for your thesis. It suits life science graduates interested in biotechnology research.
