About the programme

SPRING (Regional Development Planning and Management) is an international Master of Science started by TU Dortmund's School of Spatial Planning in 1984. It is run with partner universities in Ghana, the Philippines, Tanzania and Chile. The programme responds to decentralisation in Africa, Asia and Latin America, where new district and regional administrations need planners who can turn plans into working programmes, manage budgets, moderate participatory processes and handle climate change. Its focus is development management between macro-regional and community-based planning. It is aimed at practitioners in regional and urban planning and administration in developing countries. Teaching is in English, it lasts 24 months, and it begins every October, after a German language course from 1 September.
