About the programme

North American Studies is a research-oriented, international Master of Arts at Leibniz University Hannover where you build a research profile in North American culture, literature and media. It follows the tradition of interdisciplinary American Studies, combining literary, cultural, historical and social studies with close attention to political and social context. Areas include media history, gender and queer studies, transnational literatures, popular culture, postcolonial and diaspora studies and digital cultures, with class topics such as cultures of slavery, superhero comics, TV studies, civil rights and Black Lives Matter, and Indigeneity. Project courses let you organise a conference, create a blog or curate an exhibition, and a stay abroad or internship is part of the programme. It lasts four semesters, starts in winter or summer. Graduates can work in media, publishing, PR, museums, politics or higher education.
