About the programme
The single-subject Master's in Biology at Kiel University (CAU) runs for 4 semesters and emphasises research. You study living things from their molecular make-up to their role in ecosystems, and the evolutionary processes behind biological complexity, with close links to biochemistry, medicine and biophysics. You set your own focus from a wide range of electives built around CAU research areas such as marine biology, biotechnology, developmental biology, evolutionary research, genetics, molecular biology, ecology, physiology and cell biology, and you learn practical research methods in small groups. After an introductory module, you choose 25 credit points of biology electives and 15 credit points from across CAU in the first two semesters, plus a project management module. In the third semester two six-week research projects let you pursue a concrete research question in working groups.
