About the programme
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Kiel University (CAU) is a single-subject Master's of 4 semesters, run jointly by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine. The field sits at the interface of biology, chemistry and medicine: biochemistry explains processes in living nature at the molecular level, while molecular biology looks at nucleic acids and the processes that change an organism's genes. You work in areas such as natural product chemistry, plant and animal cell biology, genetics and evolution, molecular medicine, biotechnology, biophysics and bioinformatics, as well as metabolism and cell signalling. The third semester adds further biochemistry and specialisation modules and serves as a mobility window for a stay at another university abroad. Elective modules can be offered in English, in which case exams are in English too.
