About the programme
The Master's in Physics at Justus Liebig University Giessen is a consecutive, research-oriented programme of 4 semesters and 120 credit points, building on a relevant Bachelor's in physics. It has a one-year foundation phase and a one-year phase of in-depth study and specialisation, and you choose your area at the start: Subatomic Physics, covering nuclear, hadron, particle and heavy ion physics; Solid-State Physics, from micro- and nanostructuring, thin semiconductor layers and sensor technology to basic research; or Atom, Plasma and Space Flight Physics, including accelerator-oriented atomic and ion physics and plasma physics. You deepen your problem-solving by working independently on smaller research projects, especially in the Master's thesis in the fourth semester. Equivalent degrees from other universities in Germany or abroad can be recognised.

2. Bachelor's degree in Advanced Materials (BSc) -p.r.n. special requirements- at Justus Liebig University Gießen
Further equivalent degree courses completed at other Universities in Germany or abroad can be recognised. The focus on Physics or Physics related subjects must be visible.
The decision on whether or not the prior course of studies matches the required profile is taken by the Physics faculty board of examiners (opens in a new tab) at JLU Gießen. In particular cases admission can be obtained by taking an additional examination.
