About the programme

Economic Geography and Spatial Development Policy at Justus Liebig University Giessen is a Master's of 4 semesters and 120 credit points that combines economic geography, especially knowledge-based regional development and innovation research, with new forms of mobility and interaction, set in the context of regional development policy. It is aimed at economic geography graduates, spatial planning graduates who want to understand the causes of spatial development, and mobility or transport science graduates interested in socio-economic issues. You gain theoretical knowledge in regional disparities, innovation research, mobility research, policy field research and planning theory, and complete three study projects on current issues. The programme is internationally oriented, including semesters abroad, and brings practitioners into teaching. It has 18 modules, 15 of them in economic geography and spatial development policy, plus 18 credit points in subsidiary subjects.

The  Examination Board (opens in a new tab) can recognise further (also foreign) courses of study as equivalent after examination on a case-by-case basis, e.g. with a focus on spatial planning, political science and economics, and, if necessary, bind admission to the Master's programme to conditions.
