About the programme

Conservation Biology and Applied Ecology is an English-taught programme within the Master of Science in Biosciences at the University of Würzburg. It combines basic and applied animal ecology, conservation biology, tropical biology and global change biology, covering topics such as biodiversity, ecosystem services, agroecology, chemical ecology and soil ecology. You learn fundamental ecological and evolutionary principles and methods including remote sensing, animal census techniques, statistical data analysis and developing conservation strategies. In the first year you study two topics, each with two theory modules and a practical course, for example block courses in the Bavarian Forest National Park or at the Fabrikschleichach field station, or remote sensing with drones. The second year brings advanced experimental training, special courses and a six-month master's thesis. You take part in ongoing research projects and learn to plan and carry out theoretical, experimental and observational work independently.
