About the programme

The Master of Science in Molecular Biotechnology at Heidelberg University is a four-semester programme taught in German and English, with a start in the winter or summer semester. It offers an interdisciplinary education built on three core areas: substance research, bioinformatics and biophysical chemistry. Courses give both theoretical and practical instruction in these areas, and you can specialise in the one you prefer. There is a great deal of flexibility, since you can combine lectures, seminars and labs from across the university. The programme centres on practical work in research laboratories, which can partly take place at other universities or research institutes in Germany or abroad, so you spend most of your time in labs and on your own research projects. The master's thesis is completed in the fourth semester.
