About the programme
Food Science is a Master of Science (M.Sc.) at HAW Hamburg, the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, taught in German and English on the Bergedorf campus. It takes 4 full-time semesters and starts in the winter semester only. The programme blends technology, physics, sensory science, biology, physiology and markets to give you an expert understanding of how food is processed and produced. The first three semesters follow the food process chain from raw materials to the finished, packaged product, looking at technical, economic, environmental, legal and physiological aspects; the fourth semester is your Master's thesis. HAW Hamburg works with many Hamburg businesses, research institutes and authorities, so you gain hands-on experience. It suits graduates in nutrition, dietetics or process engineering aiming for research, specialist or management roles. International applicants need German at B2, English at B2 and, with a non-EU degree, the GRE.
