About the programme
Fashion Design, Costume Design and Textile Design is a German-taught Master of Arts (M.A.) at HAW Hamburg's Department of Design, on the Armgartstrasse campus. It takes 3 semesters full-time (part-time status is possible), and starts in the winter semester. It builds on existing skills in drawing and painting. Workshops and labs teach practical techniques, set in context by theory modules such as art and design history, fashion theory, philosophy, aesthetics, cultural theory, design research, rhetoric, poetics and creative writing. This branch focuses on fashion design, costume design and textile design, and you can specialise or work across disciplines. Modules fall into artistic concept work, theory, a Master's project and a Master's forum, and the course analyses art and design in their social and cultural context. To apply you first pass an artistic aptitude test with a portfolio, held each spring. International applicants need German at C1.
Specialization
Focal areas in the Fashion, Costume and Textile Product Design branch are as follows: • Fashion design • Costume design • Textile design
