About the programme
The Master of Arts in Linguistics at Goethe University Frankfurt is a theoretical linguistics programme taught in English. It focuses on one subject, builds on your Bachelor's, and centres on research, with fields including syntax, semantics, phonology, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, language variation and change, and constraint-based grammar. Theoretical linguistics here means using logical and mathematical tools to analyse language, as in the Minimalist Program, Montague Grammar, Optimality Theory and Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar. You learn to make well-founded statements about language and to plan and carry out your own research projects. The programme lasts four semesters and starts in winter or summer. Note that it is not an English linguistics programme.
