About the programme
Biosphere Reserves Management (BIOM) is an international Master's at Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development. Biosphere reserves are model regions for sustainable development, and the programme looks at sustainability questions from an integrated angle, studying local solutions to global problems. Aligned with UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere programme and the Lima Action Plan, it gives you theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge of managing biosphere reserves, with three competence areas: ecological and social systems; governance and management; and cooperation, communication and learning. You learn to develop sustainability strategies in participatory ways and study ecosystems, land use and cultural and socio-economic challenges. First-semester modules cover communication and teamwork, the political and legal framework of UNESCO biosphere reserves, how systems function and change, and project management. The programme is taught in English, lasts four semesters and starts in winter.
