About the programme
Soft Matter and Materials is an English-taught M.Sc. run by TU Darmstadt with Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, within the RMU alliance, over 4 semesters. It gives you the physics and chemistry needed to understand soft matter: how building blocks such as polymers, supramolecular tectons and colloids are produced, and how structure, dynamics and properties relate. The first two semesters lay the physical and chemical foundations on the Mainz and Darmstadt campuses. From the second semester you pick two of four main subjects, such as polymers at interfaces or sustainable polymer chemistry, and in the third you choose two research modules, including options at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. Applications go through Mainz. It suits chemistry, chemical engineering, physics or materials science graduates with English at B2.
