About the programme

Gender Studies (Interdisciplinary Research and Applications) at Bielefeld University is a four-semester Master of Arts worth 120 credit points, starting in the winter semester. It teaches cross-disciplinary theories, methods and findings from women's, men's and gender research, and how to use them to analyse gender and gender relations in professional settings. The programme has three thematic focus areas: socialisation and education, work and social transformation, and body and health, and you can also build a profile in one discipline. It is designed around applied work, responding to demand for gender knowledge, gender mainstreaming, diversity management and equality in organisations. It suits graduates aiming for work in education and continuing education, politics and administration, organisations and companies, media and culture, public health, social work or sport, or for early-career research positions at universities and research institutes.

Specialization

The program will continue with new study regulations and will then include three thematic focuses "Socialization and Education," "Work and Social Transformation," and "Body and Health") as well as the opportunity to develop a disciplinary profile.
