M.A. Literary Studies

Literary Studies (Literaturwissenschaft) at Bielefeld University is a four-semester Master of Arts worth 120 credit points, with starts in the winter or the summer semester. It is for students who enjoy working closely with literature, combining theory with comparative study of texts (including films, podcasts and blogs), artworks and cultural practices from different languages and cultures. After shared modules in general and comparative literary studies, you choose a profile. The practice profile prepares you for careers through courses in areas such as publishing, journalism, songwriting, and museum and theatre work. The research profile prepares you for a possible doctorate through research-based, interdisciplinary work. In both profiles you can join a double-degree programme, spending one or two semesters at Sapienza University of Rome and earning degrees from both universities with a jointly supervised thesis.
