About the programme
British and American Studies at Bielefeld University is a four-semester Master of Arts worth 120 credit points, with starts in the winter or the summer semester, and all classes are in English. It centres on the English language and its varieties, literatures in English, media such as film, newspapers, radio and the internet, and English-language cultures and their histories. The programme specialises in transculturation: processes of cultural exchange past and present, studied through linguistic and cultural practices in context. You learn to do thorough independent research, to write academic papers in literary and cultural studies and in linguistics, and to connect these fields. You apply what you learn in a self-organised internship, your own research projects, and student conferences and workshops you run as a team. It suits graduates aiming for work in adult education, tourism, or advertising, communication and PR agencies.
