About the programme
The Chemistry Master of Science at Universität Hamburg deepens your knowledge of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. It starts with a one-semester foundation phase of required modules in these core subjects plus spectroscopy and a lab course. After that, a wide choice of electives lets you specialise, for example in nanoscience, natural products, energy, cell and biochemistry, or materials science. The programme is research-oriented and includes many lab courses that show you current research, and a stay abroad is possible. It lasts four semesters, is taught in German and English, and you can start in winter or summer. Graduates can go on to a doctorate, which large companies often expect, or work in research and development, the chemical, pharmaceutical and plastics industries, consulting, environmental agencies or water management.
